Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player secured his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after March of the previous year.
The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.
The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.
However the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued four initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
